Twisted Messes Wire

Twisted Messes wire is Nichrome 80 resistance wire sold on 250ft spools, for anyone building their own coils. Three gauges are stocked: 32g, 36g and 42g, all in the same Ni80 alloy.

Gauge is the whole decision here, and it is worth getting right before ordering. Thicker wire has a lower resistance per unit length and takes longer to heat, which is why 32g is normally used as the core of a build; thinner wire heats faster and is used for wraps, cladding and fused or alien-style coils, which is where 36g and 42g come in. If you are building simple round-wire coils, 32g is what you want and the other two will be frustrating on their own. If you are making claptons or fused builds, you will need at least two of the three. Nichrome 80 is a common choice for wattage-mode building because it ramps up faster than stainless steel at the same resistance and has no iron content, but it cannot be used in temperature-control mode, which is the one limitation worth knowing before you buy. A 250ft spool is a large quantity by the standards of coil building and will outlast most single builders' interest in a given gauge.
