Kidney Puncher Nichrome 80 30ft

A 30ft spool of Nichrome 80 resistance wire from Kidney Puncher. N80 is 80% nickel and 20% chromium with no iron in the alloy, and at any given gauge it carries a lower resistance than Kanthal, so a coil built from it heats up appreciably faster. That quicker ramp is the main reason builders switch to it once they have a feel for how a coil behaves.

The iron-free composition is the other reason. Kanthal can leave a faint metallic note in the first pulls of a new build and iron usually gets the blame; N80 avoids the argument and is widely described as the cleaner of the two on taste. In exchange the wire is softer, so a compressed coil will spring slightly more than a Kanthal one and it is easy to over-tighten if you are heavy-handed with the screwdriver. Like Kanthal, N80 is for wattage mode and should not be used in temperature control, which needs a wire with a predictable temperature coefficient. The 30ft spool is the right amount if you rebuild occasionally rather than weekly.
